History

Steele is a name that has been synonymous with insurance since 1867 when Carroll Steele's grandfather set up his son, George, in the insurance agency business in Gloucester. George Steele had an office on Main Street, next to the historic Brown building in the center of downtown Gloucester. After several years George Steele's son, Carroll, entered into the insurance business and the company grew.

Needing more office space for a growing company, in 1957 Carroll Steele built a new office were it now stands today on Pleasant Street in Gloucester. Today, Carroll Steele Insurance is one of the largest and most respected insurance agency on the North Shore.
